HOW TO CREATE YOUR SIGNATURE LOOK

Now that we’ve completed our closet exercise and is all ready to restock. Allow us at the Boutique to guide you into making fashion forward style choices for 2019.

Let us get started by helping you define your Signature Look.

What is a Signature Look, you may ask.

A signature look is the holy grail of personal style. It is the icing on a refined, well-curated wardrobe, but at the same time it is the best starting point for any style journey. This look should represent your core elements and the essences of your style all in one outfit. Your signature look should be your go look, that one that makes you feel confident and fabulous when you step out.

Don’t think for a second that I’m trying to get you to wear the same clothes all the time. My intent is to make shopping easier for you. Once you’ve identified this look, it’s okay to add or subtract from it and the basis would still be there. Having a signature look signifies a considerable amount self knowledge, you know what you like and what best suits you.

I can almost read your minds as you’re reading this blog, “My style is far too boring to create a signature look, this is too much work, and oh my God I’m just not wearing the same things over and over again! Stop the drama ladies and allow me to give you a few simple steps for creating this very chic look just for you.

1. Know your body type! Not every style is for you. Certain styles look better for your shape than others do. Don’t convince yourself that you should be able to wear everything that is trending and fashionable, this is one of the reasons that we make false purchases sometimes. It’s best to stick to what look best on.

2. Get style-inspired. Gather images of people whose style you most admire and try to find the common similarities and determine what works best for you. For most people, their style concept will remain a work in progress for several years. But, creating a signature look for your current likes will help define them in detail and ultimately allowing them to evolve and develop.

3. Record your best outfits. Believe it or not, a good style moment can be forgotten in a nanosecond. If you find a great look that made you feel wonderful, and people around you just raved about it, take a photograph of yourself and refer back to the photo when necessary. Sometimes a signature look can be stumbled on by accident. Keeping a photo of you will help to define this look.

4. Figure out what your wardrobe needs. Go through the items of clothing left in your closet after your purge. Make sure it is stock with some of the basics. For example, white tees, denim, little black dress, maxi dress, animal print, pearls and basic black pumps. Once that’s done, you can begin to build to find the look that best suites you.

5. Identify a signature item. Repetition is reputation. For me, it’s denim and a beautiful flowing blouse. I can dress it up or down. I use one article of clothing to build my signature look.

Now, implement your signature look, practice, try it out and tweak it. It’s a guarantee that by finding this look you are self branding. It makes shopping so much easier, you’ll know what you’re looking immediately, and you’ll know exactly how to wear your findings.

Now, are you still suffering from fashion overload?

Come into the Boutique and allow us to help you navigate to finding your style. Remember, it’s OK to try new things that you may consider not your usual style. But knowing your Signature Style will help you to put outfits together easily.

“Style is a way to say who we are without having to speak.”
