DRESSING FOR YOUR BODY TYPE

Ladies, I’m sure this has happened to all of us!

At a distance, you see that show window with the most gorgeous, figure flattering dress displayed. In your mind,  this dress is a MUST HAVE, you’ve already decided in your mind when and where you intend to BUST it up! You run into the store and request the dress in the window in your size. You then rush  into the changing room only to find that it doesn’t fit. Okay, you think to yourself, I’ll try a size larger, only to find that it’s too big. The dress is a disaster, it looks nothing like the one displayed.  In fact, it’s the most hideous dress you’ve ever tried on. You are so disappointed and feeling depressed over the one dress that you were so hyped about just a few short minutes ago. You then realize that this dress is just not for you!

Don’t allow this shopping disaster to make you feel overwhelmed!

Not every item in the store, even in your size will fit exactly the way you want it to all the time. Choosing the right outfit for you will be a whole lot easier once you choose what’s best for your body type. These are the clothes that will flatter you.

At Stylistic, we are more than just your go to boutique, we are here to offer you advice and guide you in the right direction to ensure that you always look “Stylistically Chic”.

There are five body types, apple shape, hourglass, pear, rectangle, and inverted triangle shape.

Each of these body types has a garment or two that is best suited for their look.

We are going to break it down for you.

•Apple Body

If you fall under this figure, you will have a heavier upper body in comparison to the lower part of your body. People with this body type usually have broad shoulders and bigger bust line.

A-line or empire cuts are ideal for you. You can choose to wear printed dresses or patterned jackets that will add a layer to shift the focus. Monochrome looks, dark colors, full or 3/4th sleeves dresses and flowy tops will help.

Choose pants that are either straight or flared and try to avoid pants with zippers at the font.

•Hourglass

Women with this body type are envied, as it is the most balanced of all with a proportionate top and bottom part of the body and a well-defined waistline. This is what we call the Coca Cola bottle body type.

Your go to look?

Almost anything looks great with this body type. However, we recommend dresses that cinch at the waist, and tops with a V, plunge or sweetheart necklines as they help you flaunt your upper body. Wearing belts also help to show how defined your waistline is. A-line dresses or similar cuts take care of working on the lower part of the body and needless to say; body hugging dresses are your thing.

With this body shape it is all in the lower part of your body. Your butt and thighs are visually bigger than your upper body.

Your go to look?

We recommend slim fitting pants, along with ruffled tops which add definition to your upper body making you look well proportioned, creating that hourglass illusion.  However, don’t turn your back on crop tops, sweetheart, V or deep-V, scoop or boat necks tops. Trust us, they will also give you a balanced look.

Usually, your curves are evenly proportioned, but you may find your waist in not defined.

Your go to look?

You can never go wrong with A-line skirts, ruffled and layered tops. Dresses that add definition to your bottom and necklines that add structure to the upper body. You will always find sleeveless, strapless and sweetheart lines would look fabulous on you. Blazers, long jackets and capes add the much-needed drama for this body type, and you are also safe with slim, straight or wide leg pants.

•Inverted Triangle

This body type represents the athletic looking woman. This is when the shoulders are much broader than the hips.

Your go to look?

We will help you create a look that adds definition to your hips thereby focusing on creating a balance. A pencil skirt and  skinny jeans, with any top will look great. V-neck lines work well and create an illusion of narrow shoulders, use this as your go-to neckline.

When it comes to looking great, it’s not just your size or shape that matters, it’s also the fit of your garment. Being self-aware and informed can help you determine why a garment does not fit the way it should.
